Kelvin Nunez scored in the 80th minute but SUNY Ulster's comeback attempt came up short as they were defeated 2-1 at Westchester on Saturday afternoon.
After a first half of back and forth action which saw each goalkeeper save a penalty, Westchester was able to find the lead in the 65th minute.
Westchester would double their lead moments later after a hotly contested penalty was called amid claims that it occurred outside the box. Westchester would take advantage and extend the lead to 2-0.
Ulster went on the comeback trail late on and created numerous scoring threats.
Zane Arnold (Mount Academy) would eventually send
Kelvin Nunez (Fallsburg) on goal to half the Westchester lead.
Ultimately, the comeback attempt fell short as Westchester went onto defeated Ulster, 2-1.
Justin Dunikowski (Wallkill) made 7 saves for Ulster in defeat. Westchester held the edge in shots 11-7 and corners 4-2.
The teams will do battle for the MHC Championship on Wednesday as Ulster and Westchester will match up again in Valhalla for a 4PM showdown. Ulster moves to 7-4-2 on the season. Westchester goes to 9-3.
