Elizabeth (Libby) Scott did what she could but it wasn't enough for Ulster to pull out a win on the road against SUNY Rockland. Scott had 27 digs and 4 kills but more then statistics it was her steady play and calm demeanor that helped Ulster stay in the match. With the loss Ulster drops to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the MId Hudson Conference, before this loss they still had an outside of hosting the conference championships, but now that ship has sailed and they will play in the 2-3 game (2nd seed vs. 3rd seed).
Lack of offense is what led to this defeat. In a very tight 4 set match, which Rockland won 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 27-25) the Senators managed just 32 kills on 201 attack attempts. Rockland didn't offer much offense themselves and it turned into a defensive struggle on both sides of the net. What little offense they did have was led by Becca Leach with 7 kills and
Lauren Mahany with 6.
Many long rallies pushed the match beyond the 2 hour mark and saw some excellent defensive play from both sides. Leading Ulster in that respect were
Victoria Somer with 32 digs, Mahany with 31 and Elizabeth (Lexi) Klinger with 26.
Ulster looks to bounce back in it's next conf match on Thursday 10/10/19 at SUNY Dutchess who is much improved from the first time the Senators played them
