The SUNY Ulster Baseball team will travel to Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY this weekend to take on the Region III Champions in a best, two out of three, baseball tournament. The winner will travel to Enid, OK for the NJCAA Division II World Series starting on May 25th. The Senators are coming off an historic weekend, where they defeated #1 seed, and previously undefeated in Conference, Rockland Hawks in two straight to capture their first Region XV Championship since 2004.
The Senators are lead by third year head coach,
Steven Morse. The 2019 Region Tournament berth was the first in his tenure and first for SUNY Ulster since 2016. The team is lead by First Team All Region First Baseman,
AJ Gonzalez. Gonzalez lead the Senators offense during the 2019 campaign with a .438 batting average and 51 runs batted in. Along with Gonzalez are Second Team All Region awardees, Infielder,
Genesis Nunez and Pitcher,
Yan Infante. Nunez was a steady contributor all season, batting .338 with 6 home runs and 32 runs batted in. Infante was the teams work horse on the mound. He finished the season with a 8-2 record in 13 appearance and 60 innings on the year.
The Senators will face back to back Region III Champions, the Monroe Community College Tribunes with a record of 27-19 on the season. The two teams will start their series on Friday at 1pm at Monroe Community College. Game two will be Saturday at 12pm, with an if-necessary game three directly after if needed.
