Stone Ridge, NY - It is the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year which means that fall sports are right around the corner. SUNY Ulster men's soccer team returns to competition after finishing last season with a 9-3 (.750) overall record and their first Mid-Hudson Conference title since 2012. The Senators are coached by
Jamal Lis-Simmons.
The Senators bring in a very large recruiting class this year, with 16 freshmen joining the team. Cody Baker (Kingston, NY) and Eduardo Romero (Liberty, NY) will be holding down the goal post. Randall Ashong (Arlington, NY), Devin Gutierrez (Gastonia, NC), Chase Deising (Kingston, NY), Dantae McDonald (Portmore, Jamaica), & Anthony Rodriguez (Newburgh, NY) will add good depth to the defensive line. Anthony Murcia (Newburgh, NY) and Javier Rodriguez (Newburgh, NY) who is a two time All-American, gives the Senators great attacking options moving forward. Dennis Cardenas (Liberty, NY) and Andrew Morocho (Arlington, NY) will provide much needed depth to the midfield. Rounding out the freshman class is Michael Alonso (Kingston, NY), Jafet Mendez (Kingston, NY), Jeremiah Tart (Oneonto, NY), Simon Kiluba (Kingston), and Mark Treasure (Oneonta), who all bring versatility to the Senators.
The Senators have several key returners from last season's championship run. Jesus Martinez (Newburgh, NY) is the reigning Conference MVP and will help lead the attack for the Senators this season. Modou Badjie and Odirlei Thomaz will be returning after both making first-team all-conference last season. Also returning is Erick Alvarez, Edwin Cuesta, and Anthony Mendez, who will all be valuable contributors for the Senators.
The Senators season opener is on August 28
th against Tompkins Cortland Community College at home (Rondout Valley HS). Other notable non-conference games include matchups against Herkimer County Community College, Nassau Community College, and Monroe College – Bronx.
