Region XV Semi-Final
#2 Ulster CC vs #6 Kingsborough CC
Ulster - 2 (13-2-2)(4-0-1)
KCC - 1 (9-6-2)
Antony Pesantez (North Rockland) - 1 goal
Nick Thomaz (NFA) - 1 goal
Thomaz's late PK seals the comeback, puts Ulster in the Region XV Final
The Senators controlled a good amount of possession in the first half. They were able to use both flanks to get the final third, but were unable to finish off any of their chances. Ulster's best chance came in the 30th minute when they were awarded a PK after
Andrew Foster (Kingston) was brought down in the box. Foster's PK attempt was then saved by the visiting keeper, keeping the game scoreless. Kingsborough kept good numbers behind the ball and mostly looked to play on the counter, but did find some good space and possession at times in the first half. The game would remain 0-0 at halftime. Kingsborough started the second half applying a bit more pressure and in the 58th they took a 1-0 lead when a shot from deep found the back of the net. Ulster continued to possess the ball well and in the 69th minute they were awarded a free kick just outside the box.
Antony Pesantez (North Rockland) took the free kick and at first it seemed to be saved, but it somehow crept under the keeper and crossed the line tying the game 1-1. Ulster used the momentum and continued to push for the winner.
Andrew Foster's (Kingston) header beat the keeper, but hit the post and stayed out. Then in the 88th minute the Senators were awarded a PK after
Nick Thomaz (NFA) was taken down in the box. Thomaz stepped up and buried it to give Ulster 2-1 lead with just two minutes to play. The Senators would see out the final minutes capping off an epic 2-1 comeback victory. Ulster keeper,
Santiago Saavedra (Pine Bush) made 1 save on the day.
The #7 National ranked Senators improve to 13-2-2 overall.
